Savox Communications successfully launches ImP Marine Communications Solution at Seawork

Luxembourg – 16th June 2011. Savox Communications presented for the first time at Seaworks 2011 its ImP MV maritime IP marine command and control system. ImP already has a track record of deployment with Military and Special Forces teams and the new version brings specific functionality aimed at the maritime market.

The ImP Marine Variant IP mobile platform addresses many of the conventional maritime intercom shortcomings by providing high quality speech in the open boat environment and total control over the communications landscape. The ImP system is software defined and programmable for maximum flexibility, is easy to use and install and is modular to match various configuration requirements.

At the heart of the solution is a digital, 100Mb Ethernet backbone. This data highway allows transmission of both voice and data and allows integration with navigation aids, engine management systems and video to facilitate complete command and control of the vessel.

ImP features a man wearable Personal control Unit (PCU) making the ‘man’ the communication interface, not the platform. The PCU allows the operator to take control over their voice communications environment with simple and easy to use intuitive controls aided by voice prompts which can also be programmed into local languages. Each user has instant access to two radio PTT’s and is able to operate multiple radios via simple and easy to use menus which can be operated with one hand whilst wearing gloves and travelling at high speeds in rough sea states.

The ImP has an adaptive VoX algorithm allowing high quality voice operated communication on open boats whilst travelling at high speeds on open seas. All system units are compact and ergonomic ensuring they can be installed behind vessel bulkheads or transoms, with minimal impact on crew space.

Configurable and scalable, for example for small crews or large vessels, ImP is user configurable and has no system master meaning easy and quick set up.

As a teaming partner, STS Defence is also joining Savox at Seawork to offer its complementary capabilities of design, integration, installation, post design and contractor logistic support.

Carl Morse, Vice President of Savox Communications Defence Solutions, adds “We have had a very successful Seawork, ImP is already setting the new standards for small marine communication systems, which has been validated by the response here at Seawork. The IMP MV marine variant allows us to penetrate the maritime sector even more successfully, with features and capabilities we have included from what we are seeing the maritime market wants. I am also delighted for STS Defence to join us at Seawork as we have a teaming partnership and their design and deployment skills can help us serve the maritime market even more comprehensively.”
